When I was younger I never really thought about suicide. I didn t realize anything happening in the world until I reached middle school which is when I first started hearing people say that they want to end their lives. People don t really try to cure their depression. Some may but not the ones I ve met. I ve seen people with cut up wrists all around. I ve also heard of people overdosing on pain pills. Why do they do it? Are their lives are so bad that there is no one in this world that can help them? Is the only solution ending their lives? I don t think so. One of my friends has been talking about suicide and I ve been reminding her about the good things in life and the people that care about her. Suicide is mainly human selfishness. Suicidal people don t care about who their suicide affects other than themselves. If they actually thought about all the people that care about them they might rethink their decision. Teen suicide is a growing problem in the United States. On http www.infoline.orgCrisisstats.asp it shows that statistically suicide is a growing problem in the United States. Approximately 811 000 people have attempted suicide each year and 32 439 people successfully committed suicide in 2004 about 4 316 of whom were people between the age of 15 and 24. Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the United States while homicide is 13th. Women are three times more likely to attempt suicide but men are four times more likely to actually kill themselves. Suicide affects many people even if it s by association. If you know a suicidal person do something about it. Talk to them or talk to someone you know they ll listen to. You may save a life.
